The following technologies are some of the most innovative technologies which continue to save unwanted damage:
Gas Suppression system:
Gaseous Fire Suppression or Clean Agent fire suppression are terms used to describe gases used to extinguish fires.
Modes of Operations:
Gaseous agents work in two ways:
First: Inert the atmosphere reducing oxygen levels to a level that will no longer sustain combustion.
Second: React chemically with the fire absorbing heat and causing the chain reaction of combustion to break down.
Clean Agent fire extinguishing systems are typically used to protect three dimensional enclosures containing high value assets that are vital for business continuity, & assets that cannot be protected by traditional sprinkler systems due to the potential for water damage. Typical applications are telecommunication facilities, clean rooms, data processing centres & museums.
Water Spray Projector system:
This is a special fixed pipe system connected to a reliable source of pressurised water supply and equipped with water spray nozzles for application on area / equipment to be protected.
The system can be operated automatically by connection to an automatic detection and alarm system or manually, or both.
The extinguishment of fire is achieved by cooling, dilution of oxygen supplies, or dilution of the liquid fuel.
Types of water spray systems:
Works in two basic types:
Medium Velocity Water Spray Systems: Applies water in finely divided droplets at medium velocity. It gives protection to tanks, structures, equipments etc. by Cooling, by controlled burning of flammable liquids & also by dilution of explosive gases.
High Velocity Water Spray Systems: Extinction of fires in flammable medium & heavy oils or similar flammable liquids having a flashpoint above 65 oC. (eg: Transformer fires).
Kitchen Suppression system:
This system is given in heavy cooking areas as they release oils and greases in adjoining areas.
Fire Is Detected by Flexible, heat sensitive nitrogen pressurised Fire Detect Sensor tubing which must be routed throughout the hazard area.
In case of Fire, The Fire Detect Sensor Tubing ruptures; the pressure in the Fire Detect sensor tube decreases suddenly and activates the system automatically.
The Manual Release device is to be used if a fire is recognised by Kitchen staff before the automatic activation starts.
Water Mist System:
A water mist system is a fire protection system which uses very fine water spray; hence minimizing risk of damage of equipment within the space. The small water droplets allow the water mist to control, suppress or extinguish fires by: cooling both the flame and surrounding gases by evaporation.
Typical applications are large offices, Data centres, Museums, Theatres.
